Valerie was married to rock star guitarist Eddie Van Halen for 20 years before they separated and later divorced. Valerie says the split led her to console herself through food, and she packed on the pounds.
Since then, she says she's gotten her life—and weight—under control. "I am finally figuring out that it's okay and those bad choices and those hurtful things I did doesn't define who I am today," she says. "You can't change what you don't acknowledge, so I had to acknowledge all of my mistakes and try to forgive myself. I can move on now. I am not carrying that burden anymore."

Instead, Valerie looks fondly to the future—a future she says may even include her own talk show sometime next year. "The stronger I feel about myself and the more in tune I feel with other people, I feel like maybe I have something to say," she says.
