Rima fakih became the first Arab-American Miss USA on SUNDAY, Which is awesome. Less awesome: the Miss Universe people are apparently investigating Photos from a Michigan radio station of the 24-yeat old pole dancing in a 2007 contest. It would be a shame if they revoke her crown because of this: let's hope that doesn't happen.
some comment Here>>>
bcsizemo:I'm not going to say that a pole dancing contest couldn't be PG-13 and fun had by all ages, but the activity is usually associated with more "adult" situations....
(Not that she isn't an adult age, and has that right.)
But given that the Miss USA winner is suppose to exude the good wholesome nature that we like to think we have...then pole dancing probably doesn't work to well.
Robulus:Yes, its a fine line isn't it. Miss USA needs to conform to exactly the right stereotype.

Manooshi:She was fully clothed in the pole-dancing contest, and as such, it could be interpreted as simply yet another type of dance contest... despite the "adult" implications behind the dance style. (Note: Are NOT most dance forms sexual/sensual of sorts? Look at belly dancing, Flamenco, West-African dance, Salsa, etc.) I've been formally trained in both Western and Eastern dances since age five, and I personally would dig on learning pole-dancing as simply an athletic art-form. Good pole-dancers require mad skillz!
Regardless, the real issue here is: RACISM. This is no different than the Tea-Baggers demanding to see Obama's birth certificate.
Hools verne:Have they looked at their own website lately?
